Eugene Boudin (1824 - 1898)

oil on panel
15 x 22

We have many, many Boudins but this particuliar painting really summarizies what his work is all about. I FEEL the wind, sense the storm coming --- taste the salt.

In 1870Boudin travelled to Brusssels and to Anvers, where he painted a series of views taken from the banks of theEscaux. Writing about Boudin and his ports, the critic Gustace Geffroy observed that " in love with the sea whatever the t ime of th day or the year, he has stopped everywhere and noted all of the different aspects of the same landscape. He knows all of the inlets and ports - all of the river mouths. He is full of th epoetry of the sea".
